assuming that的用法

assuming that（假設/如果）本身是用作條件狀語的分詞短語，因此可以把它視作引導條件從句的連詞，相當于if 的用法。條件從句有兩種情況：一種是真實語氣，表示基本與事實相符；一種是虛擬語氣，表示不符合或不一定符合事實。assuming that 的用法也是如此。

如對下面句子的兩種不同表述：

就算你是對的，這件事也沒什么我可以做的。

Assuming you're right, there's not much I can do about it. 【心里承認對方是對的，只是口頭上不服氣】

Assuming you were right, there were not much I could do about it. 【明知對方不對，】

就算會談取得了進展，也未免太微不足道，且為時太晚了吧?

But assuming that the talks make progress, won't they dotoo little, too late? 【會談可能會取得進展，但心服而口不服】
